Earth Week 2020 #Stay at Home Doesn't Mean Stay Inside

Last week we celebrated Earth Week. It is a very important week to us as it speaks directly to our mission and purpose. We know that COVID-19 and stay at home orders have definitely made it challenging to do the things you used to do with your children but there are still so many ways to teach your children to celebrate and appreciate our planet and the environment.

In North Carolina, we are still under a stay at home order. Take this as an opportunity to try some new things outside with your children. As our board members show in our photo, STAY AT HOME DOESN’T MEAN STAY INSIDE. Just make sure you are following your local social distancing rules and keeping yourselves and others safe. Through instagram and facebook we shared some safe, fun and FREE outdoor activities that you can enjoy in your own backyards and neighborhoods! See Below!

Take a Hike!

Our tip of the day is to take a hike, or enjoy some sort of other outdoor exercise😎Research shows that being outdoors only heightens the benefits of exercise, not only for your overall health, but also for your brain! Encourage adventure and promote outdoor activities today with your children. Let us know what you do!#earthday#earthdayeveryday#getoutside

    Pick Strawberries!

Today’s tip for some outdoor fun is to pick strawberries! 🍓🍓🍓 It’s fresh strawberry season, and we couldn’t be happier that our local strawberry farms have been open for picking! This is the perfect family-friendly, open-air activity that will also (literally) reap benefits in the form of yummy fruit...and maybe some treats that you make with them! This is also a great way to #supportlocal - go see our friends at DJ's Berry Patch, BuckWheat Farm, Porter Farms and Nursery & Phillips Farms of Cary, NC ❤️ We’d love to hear your family fave strawberry recipes too! #strawberryseason #getoutside #familyfun #wakecountync

Plant a Tree!

Though our state’s designated Arbor Day was last month, we’re so glad to be able to celebrate the trees today🌳So, it only makes sense for our tip of the day to be plant a tree! Did you know you can sign up with the Arbor Day Foundation and receive 10 free trees to plant? There are lots of other fun way to celebrate today - head to arborday.org/kids for some great activity ideas. We’d love to see how you’re enjoying the trees today - tag us in your photos!🌲❤️🌳#arbordayathome

Take a Nature Scavenger Hunt

We’re sharing a cool idea to help you get outside for a fun adventure with your family! ☀️ Plan a nature scavenger/sensory hunt - it’s a great way to explore your backyard, neighborhood or a local park/trail that’s open!

We’ve included an example of a scavenger/sensory hunt that we love from Little Bins for Little Hands for inspiration 🌱 (Find a blank version to create yourself at (https://littlebinsforlittlehands.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Backyard-Scavenger-Hunt-DIY.pdf?fbclid=IwAR3q-1S-FZfsXO7nqzJl-7oyKqiT2kZHE-Lbk9TpZaGo8zH9KBL-MB__aMM)

Find Shapes in Clouds!

It’s a new week with lots of new chances to explore the outdoors with your family! Our tip for the day is to find shapes in the clouds🌤☁️🌥This is a great way to encourage imagination with little ones, but you can also use this activity as a teaching tool for children learning about the types of clouds as well. What shapes can you find? Which cloud types can you identify? Let us know!
